Empowered Futures Workshop – A global PhD research school navigating the social and environmental controversies of low-carbon energy transition.

On April 23, 2024, the Empowered Futures Workshop took place at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, bringing together over 40 representatives from academia. The event, part of a global PhD research school, focused on addressing the social and environmental challenges surrounding the low-carbon energy transition.

Dr. João Pedro Gouveia presented the ENTRACK project, which aims to build fairer, more socially inclusive energy futures, particularly in rural areas. The presentation highlighted the importance of involving local communities in the transition to ensure equitable access to energy, while addressing both environmental and social inequalities.

The workshop facilitated meaningful discussions on the complexities of low-carbon energy systems and their potential to reshape societal structures. Participants exchanged ideas on how to design and implement energy policies that balance environmental goals with the need for social equity.

This event marked a significant step in advancing global research on energy justice and sustainability, with a focus on rural communities that are often marginalized in energy policy discussions.
